About Henderson Hall

Henderson Hall has been at the heart of the village for nearly 53 years. Following the generous donation of local resident Mrs Henderson, it was built in 1969 by builders JL Stephens & sons whose firm continues to be based in the village today and who have never waivered  from supporting the Hall.

When it was first built, the hall was considered to be a landmark initiative prompting other similar neighbourhoods to follow suit so they too could host community events.

Today, the Hall is not only central to the villages identity but it provides Talybont’s only public toilets and showers for the benefit of visitors.

Over the years, the Hall has relied on the commitment of volunteers in the shape of its own Trustees, Talybont on Usk Community Council,  friends of the Hall and local groups to ensure its sustainability. Numerous grants have been secured and thanks to the work of Talybont on Usk Energy Group, the Hall is increasingly recognised for its Green credentials.

Storyboard and oral history recordings

In 2019 in celebration of its 50th Anniversary, the Hall Committee received a grant from the National Lottery Heritage fund to help to create a record of the physical and social history of the Hall and its surrounds.

This record took the form of a Storyboard, now permanently sited at the Hall, which shows the Hall’s vibrant history as a much-valued community hub: the clubs, the activities, and the key events that have taken place over the years.

The Storyboard is complemented by Oral History recordings which bring to life the memories, experiences and personal stories of 22 people who have been involved with and supported the Hall.

The project was created and brought to fruition by a local working group who worked alongside Jon Dixon, the Storyboard designer, and Tim Jones of As-You-See-It-Media on the recordings and Will Gold a resident of the village produced the short film you can watch below.
